You can safely inspect what is happening. Look at the cable where it wraps the drum. Look for rust, broken wires, or the cable sitting off to one side. Check if the door is level when closed. Do not pull on a slack cable or try to reseat it yourself. The cable is under spring tension even when the door is down, and a slipped cable can release that tension without warning. The drum set screws require a specific torque; too loose and the drum walks, too tight and you crack the casting.
